General Manager

Position: General Manager
Reports to: Chief Growth & Innovation Officer

Role Overview:
The General Manager is the key leader responsible for overseeing the entire operation of The Lobby, ensuring its success as a retail store, art gallery, and event space. This role involves managing staff, driving sales, maintaining operational efficiency, and delivering an exceptional experience for customers and partners. The General Manager acts as the primary liaison between ownership, staff, and external partners, fostering a collaborative environment that aligns with The Lobby’s vision and values.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and oversee the performance of all staff, including retail, events, and marketing.
  • Handle hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance evaluations to build a cohesive and high-performing team.
  • Provide ongoing training on Shopify, product knowledge, and operational best practices.
  • Delegate roles and responsibilities to ensure efficient operations and optimal workflows.

Operations Oversight:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of The Lobby, including inventory control, facility maintenance, and customer service.
  • Resolve internal and external conflicts through proactive problem-solving and mediation.
  • Ensure compliance with business licenses, event insurance, SOPs, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee all financial operations, including payroll, budgeting, and tracking sales performance, and provide regular reports to HET leadership.  

Facility and Inventory Management:

  • Maintain The Lobby’s facilities, including appliance repair, cleaning coordination, and general organization of shared spaces.
  • Manage inventory control, including product restocking, troubleshooting, and tracking.
  • Ensure the aesthetic upkeep of the store and gallery, such as wall touch-ups, planter maintenance, and retail floor resets.

Retail and Gallery Management:

  • Ensure that the retail and gallery spaces meet aesthetic and operational standards, including restocking, wall touch-ups, and retail floor resets.
  • Maintain relationships with artists and consignment partners, ensuring proper reporting and sales tracking.
  • Drive sales performance by monitoring team goals, customer engagement, and product knowledge.

Event and Partnership Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Events Manager to support event logistics, from planning to execution.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, vendors, and real estate partners.
  • Oversee customer gifting programs, activations, and other partnership-driven initiatives.
  • Manage Client gifting program. 

Strategic Planning and Reporting:

  • Develop and implement strategies to drive revenue across all areas of the business: retail, gallery, and events.
  • Analyze monthly sales reports, team performance metrics, and event outcomes to inform decisions.
  • Work with HET leadership to grow The Lobby’s presence, brand value, and profitability.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years proven experience in general management or leadership roles, preferably in retail, events, or lifestyle businesses.
  • Familiarity with retail curation, buying, and visual merchandising is an asset.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Shopify, reporting software, and operational systems.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational efficiency.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead teams and foster relationships.
  • Passion for design, community-building, and supporting local artists and makers.

Marketing & Events Manager

Role Overview:
As the Marketing and Events Manager, you will champion The Lobby’s brand identity, crafting engaging marketing campaigns and curating exceptional events. From managing social media to collaborating with artists and planning innovative workshops, you’ll play a pivotal role in fostering community connections and elevating The Lobby’s presence as a premier destination in Rosedale.

Key Responsibilities:

Marketing and Brand Development:

  • Create and manage The Lobby’s social media content calendar, including grid posts, stories, and campaign planning that align with our brand ethos.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on branding, signage, and promotional strategies.
  • Draft and distribute monthly email newsletters to promote events, retail offerings, and gallery exhibitions.
  • Oversee website management, including product uploads, artist features, and user experience optimization.
  • Monitor and report on marketing performance, tracking the success of campaigns and engagement.

Event Planning and Execution:

  • Plan and execute events, including community workshops, pop-ups, real estate gatherings, and internal activations.
  • Manage event inquiries, site tours, and planning meetings with clients and partners.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including permits, licenses, rentals, food and beverage, and tech setup.
  • Build relationships with internal and external partners to expand The Lobby’s event offerings.
  • Oversee event budgets, invoicing, and contract negotiations, ensuring seamless execution from start to finish.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Track and report event success metrics, sales performance, and artist/partner contributions.
  • Develop strategies to increase community engagement and event attendance.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in marketing and event management, ideally in a lifestyle, retail, or art-focused environment.
  • Proficiency with tools like Shopify, Canva, and email marketing platforms.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with an eye for detail.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Passion for creativity, community building, and supporting local artists and makers.
