Onyx Coffee Lab | Golden Monkey Tea

$33.00

12 Sachets.

Origin: Fujian

Process: Withered, Oxidized, Dried

Caffeine: 50mg

Cup Notes: Walnut, Cocoa, Honeyed Peach

This exceptional black tea originates from Fujian Province, China. Hand-processed each Spring, the tea artisans carefully pluck only the tender bud and first leaf of each tea plant. These leaves are lightly withered in the sun, then oxidized and dried. Its common name, Golden Monkey, is partially derived from the pale gold threading in the leaf, while the appearance of the tight, wiry leaves resembles a monkey's hand. One can enjoy a rich, smooth cup with mild notes of walnut, hints of sweetness, and a light cocoa finish.

DUAN’S FAMILY FARM Duan grew up on tea farms and has been involved with tea growing and production for his entire life. He is one of the most prolific and enthusiastic tea producers, and the sourcing partner has worked with him for over a decade. Through the years, Duan has pioneered many organic farming initiatives, curated his own small production facility, and forged partnerships with producers and farmers all around Henan, China. Today, he owns several of his own tea gardens. Each batch is produced by hand in very small quantities, and Duan’s entire family is involved in the processing from start to finish. They are incredibly passionate about producing unique, artisanal teas, and they are always experimenting with new ways to produce high-quality teas, all by hand. He is always excited to share new teas that he’s working on and is beyond grateful for the opportunity to share his artistic handiwork with the world.

BLACK TEA Black tea is oxidized more than oolong, white, and green teas, meaning that after plucking and withering, the tea leaves are rolled, crushed, chopped, or otherwise bruised to spur oxidation to 90-100%. Temperature, humidity, and other factors affecting oxidation are tightly controlled before drying. The resulting brew will be stronger in flavor and usually a deep reddish color. Many Asian countries name this a “red tea” after the color of the tea liquor after steeping.

ABOUT THE SACHETS The pyramid tea sachets are designed to give the tea leaves ample room to unfurl and expand as they steep. These sachets are made from PLA Mesh (NeoSoilon®) material that is derived from 100% non-GMO sugar cane. Each sachet is pre-dosed so one can enjoy a great cup of tea at their convenience.
